A Ph.D. in political science or a related discipline focusing on political theory is required at the time of appointment.

The areas of specialization are open with a preference for candidates with expertise in American Political Thought and intersectional approaches to political theory.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Government and Justice Studies (GJS) is home to over 800 undergraduate students, and over 70 graduate students. They study with over 30 full-time tenure-track faculty who are at the forefront of their areas of expertise and are amongst the most honored teachers at Appalachian State University. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The teaching load is 3 courses per semester for faculty with an active research agenda.

The individual hired in this position will provide sophomore-level courses on political ideologies as well as upper-division undergraduate courses, and graduate courses based on their area of expertise and program needs.
