Job Description
The candidate will perform or direct the duties of telecommunication engineering support work to design, maintain, and operate telecommunication systems and facilities for the protection, control, operation, and maintenance of the power system. Systems and facilities may include:
Microwave
Land and Satellite Data
Paging and Mobile Radio
Fiber Optics
SCADA
EMS
Telephony
Power Line Carrier
Local Area Networks
Wide Area Networks
Digital Transmission Systems
The incumbent is responsible for the design development, layout and wiring, installation, operations, maintenance, rehabilitation, and testing of communication and electrical equipment and systems.
Duties include:
Analyzing system needs
Validating user requirements
Selecting the most appropriate system/equipment
System configuration and integration
The candidate will carry out duties in a manner that assures that engineering design and maintenance costs and schedule performance goals are met. They will help develop and assure the application of system-wide best practices and standards.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with and coordinating the activities of lower-level technicians in engineering studies or parts of engineering studies to evaluate the effects of modifications, deterioration, deletions, and additions to telecommunication systems and equipment. They will resolve initial installation testing and operation and maintenance problems for equipment and systems.
The candidate will perform a more complex level of design development and maintenance functions including:
Calculations
Checking drawings
Selecting and specifying equipment
Troubleshooting and repairing
Reporting
Programming and testing equipment
As a technical lead on projects of moderate and major scope, duties include:
Resolving design development and installation problems
Checking the design work of lower-level technicians
Checking equipment installation
Turn-up testing
Identifying and reporting project discrepancies
Marking and submitting as-built prints or print corrections
Directing or coordinating the work of lower-level technicians
Reporting lessons learned at project completion
When assigned to a nuclear plant, the candidate must be able to obtain and maintain an unescorted plant access certification. They must also be able to obtain and maintain S-3 and S-4 medical ratings with no shift work or overtime restrictions. The candidate must be willing and medically qualified to work rotating shifts and the maximum overtime permitted by *** procedures during peak demand periods.
Supervisory Responsibilities
On specific projects, the candidate may direct or coordinate the work of other employees.
Qualifications
Science Degree or advanced degree in Telecommunications Technology or equivalent related field, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
Must have satisfactorily completed the PSO Technician Training Program.
Demonstrated experience as a Telecommunication Technician, Senior.
