Job Description

Construction Laborer Location Bangor, ME : Job Summary We are looking for a highly motivated research assistant to join our lab! Dr. Mann's research group studies the genetic landscape of childhood kidney and urinary tract disease, with a focus on novel genetic etiologies of developmental kidney disease and voiding dysfunction. We utilize cutting edge technology, including whole exome and genome sequencing of patients with genitourinary disease, modeling of genetic variants in cellular systems, and performing functional assays to study the pathogenicity of the identified variants. The role would include both patient recruitment, exome sequencing analysis, and functional validation. We are a young lab with plenty of room for growth and independence, and this an ideal position for individuals interested in gaining experience in translational research before applying to graduate or medical school. This Research Assistant I will be responsible for:
Patient recruitment in Nephrology and Urology clinics.
Analysis of whole exome and genome sequencing data.
Performs a variety of laboratory techniques, including but not limited to: cell culture, western blotting, immunostaining, PCR, molecular cloning, DNA isolation, and RNAseq.
Performs the following techniques typically required for the laboratory/study: maintaining records of results and methodologies, maintaining work area and data files in a neat and professional manner, processing orders for supplies, mixing standard reagents.
Conducts literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new methodologies to the PI.
Attends courses, lectures and conferences to further own knowledge of research and computational approaches, consulting with other researchers and analysts to exchange information.
In order to qualify, you must have:
Bachelor's degree in STEM or Psychology and/or a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
Excellent written/oral communication and organizational skills.
Must work effectively in a team environment with the ability to interact professionally with all levels of laboratory staff.
A minimum two-year commitment is desired.
