Job Description

St. Michael’s Catholic Preparatory School (formerly St. Michael’s Catholic Academy + St. Gabriel’s Catholic School) is an outstanding co-educational Independent Catholic school serving students from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade in Austin, Texas. The Lower School comprises PreK 3-4th grades, the Middle School houses grades 5-8, and the Upper School contains grades 9-12. Summary:

The After School Assistant fulfills the mission of St. Michael’s Preparatory Catholic School by assisting the Auxiliary Department in the execution and operation of all after-school activities, including, but not limited to, Saber Kids, After-School Enrichment, the Campus Store, and Facility Rentals. The ideal candidate will be asked to open the campus store daily, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the lower school campus.  From 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. The ideal candidate will welcome parents and guests at the front desk of the lower school campus.  Additionally, the ideal candidate will be asked to occasionally open the concession stand during high school athletic events and serve as the Admin on Duty during weekend facility rentals.  The position is hired and evaluated by the Director of Auxiliary Programs. This is a part-time, hourly position and will not qualify for benefits. (10-20 hours/week).

  • Acts as a witness of Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a school community
  • Meets the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese
  • Current CPR/AED certification and first aid training

  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Able to work independently and self-motivate
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Able to work well with others in the school community
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format
  • Skill in job appropriate technology
  • Skill in critical thinking and planning

Working Conditions

  • Required to manage moderate to high levels of stress
  • Required to work afternoons and some weekends
  • Required to work in standard classroom, gym, field, and school conditions

Mental/Physical Demands

  • Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment, including athletic equipment
  • Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather
